Day 3

In the morning Mr.Timbit, M-boy and I played cribbage and I took a healthy lead.

Later on, we went for a 6 km bike ride along the Fraser river, to Byrne Road in Burnaby, where we were going to have lunch at McDonald's. On the way there, I had a bit of a wipe-out and got a big scrape on my knee so we had to stop for a few minutes and that caused a delay especially as we had to go slower due to my injury!  When we finally got to McD's, we parked our bikes and went inside for our lunch.  M-boy and I ordered a McChicken meal and Mr.Timbit got the 6pc McNugget meal.

After we finished eating, we only had 20 minutes to get home, in time for our pick-ups.  We pedalled as fast as we could, while watching out for the traffic.  Our butts and legs were sore!  Sweat ran down our backs and faces.  Another factor was that my bike doesn't have gears!   When we saw that we were going to be late,  we stopped to make a few phone calls to let our moms know.

We finally got back at 12:15 pm, and our pick-ups were there waiting.  Boy, were we hot and tired!

Day 2

Today was the second day of the Bombing Boys Club. After M-boy and Bradenator arrived, we made hand grenades out of baking soda and vinegar. We wrapped some baking soda in a paper towel and poured 3/4 cup of vinegar into a sandwich bag. We shook them together and dropped them and the ground. KABOOM! Bradenator, M-boy and I all thought it was really exciting and cool. We learned that mixing baking soda and vinegar creates a gas which is powerful enough to burst a plastic bag.

Following that activity, we headed off to Fraserview Park to run the obstacle course that we couldn't complete yesterday. On the full obstacle course, Bradenator got the shortest time. On the half  obstacle course, I got the shortest time. M- boy was so close to beating my time but he just fell ( literally) short of touching the finish line, which was a ball at the end of the playground structure.

When we got home, we finished our game of Cribbage. In the end, Bradenator won,  even though M-boy and I would catch up to him once in a while. We started another game and Bradenator is already in the lead. I have a feeling that he's becoming a card shark! Lastly, we had Kraft Dinner for lunch. I added ketchup and pepper to mine, Bradenator added pepper to his, and M-boy sprinkled salt on his. After, it was time for Bradenator and M-boy to go. I really enjoyed Day 2 of the Bombing Boys Club, and judging by what I saw, I think everyone else did too.

Mr. Timbit

Day 1

(July 9, 2012)  We have a new member and his code name is Bradenator, while Mr.Timbit, and M-boy returned from last year. In the morning we started off with a little bit of philosophy. Camp leader gave us a bunch of pictures of things from magazines. We each had to put them in order from what we thought was most beautiful to least beautiful.  We learned that people are different and that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

From there, we went to Fraserview park. We played on the zipline and started an obstacle course but we couldn't finish because other kids started playing in the playground where our obstacle course was.

After we finished playing at Fraserview Park, we headed to Kin's Farm Market where we each had to choose a vegetable we had never tried (or rarely tried) in our life. Bradenator chose an artichoke, M-boy chose okra, and Mr. Timbit chose chayote. In the car, on the way to the market, Bradenator taught us a game called Go Guma. Two people play by saying each syllable. It was very funny because someone kept getting mixed up.

When we got home, Camp Leader taught us a card game called Cribbage. Bradenator started off with a big lead however, M-boy caught up!  M-boy was 1 point behind before Camp Leader called us for lunch. For lunch we had Cheese Quesadillas they were AWESOME!

Day 5

Today was the last day of the first ever week of Bombing Boys' Club/ Camp.   And I, Camp Leader, will put in the last blogposting.

This morning, I asked the boys if they ever made pizza.  "Yeah," they said, with a slight look of boredom.  "Really?" I asked, " you've made pizza dough before?"  Then they sat up.  "Oh. No," said M-boy and Monkey Man.  " we've just put toppings on pizza."

"Ah," I said, " that's different.  This morning, you're going to follow a recipe and make pizza dough."

So off they went.

 "1 tablespoon of sugar!"
"No, it's one tea-spoon of sugar."
"Two and one to four of yeast!"
 "Four cups of flour!"
"Then what?"
" Oooo, what's that smell?"
"Smells like beer.  I like it."

"Ciao!  We're making a pizza!"

"Ugh!"  "It's so sticky!"

Monkey Man gets down on the dough, stretching it and pulling it.  "Ooof!" he grunts, "it's not heavy,  just sticking to the bowl." Then we covered the dough and left it to rise in a warm oven.

The Art Project for the day

The boys found three long sticks on the table.  "What are these?" they asked.  "You'll be making arrows."  First they painted the papier mache arrow head.  Then they cut pieces of tape and wrapped them around the shaft, trying to keep them neat and smooth.

Finally, using a glue gun, they stuck feathers to the ends and voila, some cool arrows are ready for decorating a wall.

Then the boys went off to play some videos.

Pizza for lunch.

While the boys played their videos,  I put together their lunch.  Pizza turned out pretty well!

It's been a great week.  We all had fun.  Maybe we'll do it again!

Have a great rest of the summer!

Day 4

Today was Day 4.

We started camp by pulling out lots of hats, sunglasses and fake facial hair. We took some pictures of ourselves. They were very funny! We would need them later.

Me

 Monkey Man

Then, we used the photos to make Pokemon cards using a website called My Poke-Card.

Here is the link to the site.     http://www.mypokecard.com/en/

Then we printed the cards, cut them and glued them onto real (but less valuable) Pokemon cards. Then we went outside and practiced on our stilts a little bit more. It was harder because the grass was wet.

Making a stop motion film

Next we made a stop motion movie. We used Lego characters and a kernel of popcorn.  Me and Monkey Man moved the figures around in small movements and Camp Leader snapped away with the camera.  Then she went away and did something with all the pictures on her computer.  We chose the music to add to the film and the title:  Revenge of the Popcorn!

Day 4 zipped by very quickly!

Day 3

Today  was Day 3.

Yesterday Monkey Man and Mr. Timbit started working on the stilts.  They sanded and glued together the pieces of wood. This morning, Camp Leader and I drilled holes (with a power drill) and screwed them together.

Then we got to try them.

In the picture below, Monkey Man is trying to stand on the stilts and walk on them.  We were all trying just to balance.   Camp Leader said," you must find your inner peace."  Monkey Man said " INNER PEACE IS NOT WORKING HERE!  BUT IT'S WORKING FOR MR. TIMBIT."

Monkey Man's record was 4 steps and Mr. Timbit made 4 steps and mine was 1 step only!!

My legs kept spreading apart - it was like I was doing the splits!   Monkey Man said, "think like a chopstick!!"

It was really hard to balance and the longest time was 10 seconds!!! Camp Leader said that it was like learning to walk all over again (like for a baby)!!

After we played some ball tag and some hockey and I almost had 10 straight goals!!! Until Monkey  Man ruined it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Day 2

Day 2 of the Bombing Boys Club.

On day 2 we learned how to clean pennies. We used salt and vinegar.  After, the old pennies became very clean.

See the shiny pennies?

Next we made lava lamps. Mr.Timbit 's lava lamp was green and mine was blue. It was very fun. To make them we put food colouring in a water bottle.   Then we added mineral oil and salt and bubbles came up.

Then we added some magic balls. They will grow bigger in a couple of days.

These are pictures of our lava lamps.

Next we made hand grenades.  In a small ziplock bag, we put 3/4 cup vinegar.  Then we wrapped up 3 tablespoons of baking soda in a small piece of paper towel.  Carefully we put the baking soda packet in the bag, but not touching the vinegar, and zipped the bag close. When we were ready, we shook it and threw it. The first time, we were nervous. But the second time was exciting.  POP! They blew up like that.

IT WAS FUN!

My first time - I was nervous.

This is what it looks like after it blew up.
